On April 30th, 2012, representatives of the Saxon State Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and the Arts as well as of the Chemnitz University of Technology (CUT) celebrated the topping out ceremony of the eniPROD office building on the campus Reichenhainer Straße. The building activities authorized by the Free State of Saxony started in June 2011. The investment volume amounts to 5.7 millions Euros and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The building will be accomplished in 2013. Head of department in the Saxon State Ministry of Finance Johann Gierl: "Thereby, the Free State creates the best working conditions for this unique and forward-looking research cluster. This will strengthen the competitivity of the Saxon and the German economy especially in the mechanical engineering and automotive industry." Head of department in the Ministry of Science Matthias Hüchelheim: "The Cluster of Excellence 'Energy-Efficient Product and Process Innovations in Production Engineering' eniPROD of the CUT and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technologies investigate holistic solutions for a reduction of energy consumption of 30 per cent during the production. Mechanical engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, physicians and business economists cooperate in interdisciplinary research teams under one roof. With the new office building, the involved scientists will have the opportunity to deal with interdisciplinary projects in creativity-supporting team work rooms and to find new research approaches." Under the management of the Staatsbetrieb Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB), a building with three floors and a useable floor space of 1,458 square meters is going to be built for 104 coworkers of the Cluster of Excellence eniPROD, among them ten international postgraduates of the International Academy for Production Engineering CIRP.
